About Integrative Wellness Life Coaching
What is Integrative Wellness Life Coaching?
Integrative Wellness Life Coaching is a collaborative process between coach and client...using tools grounded in positive psychology, effective change principles, and accountability techniques, we work together to help you make solid, tangible changes in your life.
A typical coaching session begins with a brief check-in and grounding. Coach and client then review progress on items from the previous session. The client is asked to state a goal for focus for the current session, and the bulk of the time is spent on that focus. The session wraps up with established commitments and ways to provide accountability. Coaching may either be structured as a set number of sessions targeted at one specific goal, or it may be an ongoing relationship that supports the client in longer-term growth.
Sessions can be in-person, on the phone, or via secure client portal.

Coaching is an emerging profession within the realm of psychological well-being. It is still being defined, and is currently not licensed in the state of California. The focus of coaching is on identifying where the client would like to be in the future, deciding on ways to get there, and getting support in making it happen. In general, coaching services are not covered by insurance.
Psychotherapy is a well-defined profession and is licensed in California by the Board of Behavioral Sciences. Services focus on assessing the situation, determining an appropriate diagnosis, and then utilizing a number of techniques to assist the client in resolving the issues and moving towards better health and well-being. Psychotherapy is covered by most major insurance plans, with varying amounts of copays and deductibles.
Integrative Wellness Life Coaching can often be very effective as an adjunct to psychotherapy. For example, someone being treated for depression might use a coach to help in implementing specific goals identified in therapy such as adding in more movement or searching for a new job. Similarly, someone who is being treated for an eating disorder might benefit from having a coach to assist in solidifying new, healthier habits. Coaching does not take the place of therapy, but it can help with the "but, I don't know how!" when it comes to building new habits.
